The Agriculture, Nutrition & Health (ANH) Academy invites the global community of ANH researchers and users of this research to register for the first ANH Academy Week to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 20-24 June 2016. Registering for the Week is free of charge.

Purpose of the ANH Academy Week

The ANH Academy Week will be an annual event, expanding on the successful history of the five Leverhulme Centre for Integrative Research on Agriculture and Health (LCIRAH) conferences, events and activities by CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) and Innovative Methods and Metrics for Agriculture and Nutrition Action (IMMANA).

The goal of the ANH Academy Week is to facilitate learning and sharing among the global community of interdisciplinary researchers and research-users working on agriculture and food systems for improved nutrition and health. The first ANH Academy Week is to be held in Addis Ababa to facilitate participation and engagement of the African research and research-user communities with participants from around the world.

Programme

preliminary programme for the ANH Academy Week can now be downloaded and features contributions from a diverse set of ANH Academy partners and leading thinkers at the nexus of agriculture, nutrition and health research. Keynote speakers announced so far include Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and former Rwandan Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources (MINAGRI); and Shawn Baker, Director of Nutrition at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Academy Week events will begin at the International Livestock Research Institute (IRLI) with two days of interactive Learning Labs covering a broad array of nutrition impact measurement methods and skills, as well as workshops focusing on interdisciplinary research, funding and getting published. A set of key learning outcomes can be found by clicking on sessions in the programme - more details will be added periodically so please return to the site for updates.

Please note: Places for the Learning Labs are limited to 100 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The Learning Labs will be followed by a three day scientific Conference on Agri-Health Research, held at The Hilton Hotel. Speakers from institutions in over twenty countries will be delivering research abstracts around five major themes:

  • Agriculture and food systems, environmental change and diets
  • Agriculture and human health linkages
  • Contribution of agriculture and food systems policies and programmes towards nutrition
  • Drivers of food environment at national, community and household levels
  • Institutions and governance of food systems

These sessions will be accompanied by a wide range of poster presentations from around the world, Keynote Addresses from leading figures in relevant disciplines and panel-based sessions on evidence into policy.

With receptions and cultural evenings there will be ample opportunities to network, socialise and foster new collaborations.

Registration for the ANH Academy Week is FREE but places are limited and gaining a visa for Ethiopia can take some time. You are strongly advised to secure your attendance as soon as possible. You can register for the Learning Labs and Research Conference separately or together at this link
