The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global institution for development research, teaching and learning, and impact and communications, based at the University of Sussex in Brighton, UK.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting an international team of researchers and communication professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa, Sweden, USA and UK to implement a new, five-year, Research Programme Consortium on Agricultural Policy Research in Africa (APRA), funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). The role will be based at the Institute of Development Studies.

The Impact, Communications and Engagement (ICE) Officer will work with the APRA ICE Coordinator (based in Nairobi, Kenya) to define APRA’s ICE Strategy; develop its digital presence, website and social media; and ensure meaningful engagement with key stakeholders. In addition, the ICE Officer will also work with the CEO, ICE Coordinator and Data Management and Impact Officer to design and implement a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) system for APRA.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced communications professional with a track record in all aspects of communications of a complex programme of activities. They will also have some knowledge and experience of monitoring, evaluation and learning systems. We are seeking highly-organised applicants with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment. The successful candidate should be willing to travel to Sub-Saharan Africa on a periodic basis.
