Reflecting on YAP Phase 1

GFAR proudly announces the appointment of our new Chair and Vice-Chair who will lead GFAR into its next phase

At their meeting in June 2017, the GFAR Steering Committee appointed Ms. Bongiwe N. Njobe from South Africa as Chair of GFAR. She is joined by Mr. Raffaele Maria Maiorano from Italy as Vice-Chair. In just a short time since their selection, Ms. Bongiwe and Mr. Maiorano have shown themselves to be a dynamic team, eager to engage the members of the GFAR Steering Committee who will guide the Partners in GFAR in taking forward collective actions.

The Partners in GFAR welcome the new appointments and look forward to working with the new Chair and Vice-Chair as GFAR develops and implements its next Medium Term Plan (2018-2021). Dr Mark Holderness, GFAR Executive Secretary, and the whole GFAR Secretariat staff also take this opportunity to express our thanks to the outgoing Chair and Vice-Chair, Dr. Juan Lucas Restrepo and the Honourable Professor Ruth Oniang'o, for their superb leadership and vision as GFAR has undertaken to transform itself, with the Partners, to be truly representative of the many, diverse voices in agri-food research and innovation.

Read on below to learn more about the new Chair and Vice-Chair and the GFAR Strategic Workshop and Steering Committee held in June. In this GFAR Update we're also highlighting recent Partner Spotlights on SIANI and IFAD, and sharing the final reflections of the young agripreneurs that took part in YAP Phase 1

GFAR is an open and inclusive movement for change, open to all who share in our common purpose of advocating for, and catalyzing Collective Actions to strengthen and transform agri-food research and innovation systems, so that they are more effective in sustainable development. GFAR Update is a briefing service from the GFAR Secretariat. Our aim is to keep you regularly informed and aware of new initiatives and collective actions of the Partners in GFAR around the world, so that these can have greater reach and impact for those we serve - in particular for poor smallholder farmers and consumers.
